Since I was little I loved quotes. I regularly change the wallpaper of my phone to new quotes that inspire me, sometimes I write them down in my journals, and at home, I even have them on walls.
My favorite quotes are philosophical quotes esp of Gautama Buddha. Gautama Buddha was a philosopher, spiritual teacher who lived in ancient India. He is the founder of the religion of Buddhism and is unquestionably one of the most influential personalities of all time.
Some of my favorite quotes of him are:
“It is better to travel well than to arrive.”
As we grow up, we understand the value of money and time. We hoped to earn more of both and with this mentality, we just keep going and achieving.
What we fail to do is enjoying the process and we can’t feel peaceful.
So, try to enjoy every day of your life and understand that no goal in life is more worthy than living happily. Make sure to live a life that you can be proud of because it’s the journey that counts, not the destination.
“You, yourself, as much as anybody in the entire universe, deserve your love and affection.”
True love is the strongest emotion one can feel. Everyone deserves it. I deserve it. You deserve it.
But you deserve it from yourself as you are the most important person in your life. People will come and go but you will always stay with yourself.
Here “yourself” means your thoughts, your physical and mental image.
Appreciating yourself is the key to admiring others. We need to love ourselves before we expect someone else to love us.
After all, if Buddha himself said this then we should love ourselves!
Go self-love!
Self-love means letting yourself to be happy.
Do things that make you feel good and happy.
“Don’t respond to rudeness. When people are rude to you, they reveal who they are, not who you are. Don’t take it personally. Be silent.”
Whenever a person offends someone to make them feel bad, they are showing their personality.
We need to understand that rudeness exists but it shouldn’t affect our well-beings. If someone is being rude to you, let them be.
If you spread hate, you will get hatred. So, spread love and joy, these are the emotions you feel deep inside. What you give is what you get!
Don’t mind the rude people. Practice self-reflection, and know your values. Don’t worry about what people think of you.
“Judge nothing, you will be happy. Forgive everything, you will be happier. Love everything, you will be happiest.”
If we didn’t keep an eye on yourselves, we will start judging others, which will lower our energy.
If you find someone hard to forgive, you will torture yourselves for years. As Buddha said, “Remembering a wrong is like carrying a burden on the mind.” Forgiveness can be tough at times as you don’t want the person to feel peace but think of it as releasing yourselves from lifelong misery.
Through forgiveness, being compassionate, you free yourself. You give yourself the sense to be happy.
Instead of judging others, let’s be sympathetic and spread love.
If you find yourself judging someone, stop right away and try to figure out why you feel that way. Whatever is the reason, accept it and let it go.
Forgive yourself too, for all things you’ve done in the past, learn from it and become a better person.
“Believe nothing, no matter where you read it, or who said it, no matter if I have said it unless it agrees with your own reason and your own common sense”
In the world full of knowledge and wisdom, there are so many gurus trying to educate us on how we should behave and live our lives.
I tried learning all the information out there and apply them in my life but still, I wasn’t satisfied with my achievements.
Don’t take advice without reflecting on whether it suits you or not. Things that have worked for others, may not work for you.
Everyone is on different paths and everyone has different needs. There is no single answer to everything in life.
“Let us rise up and be thankful, for if we didn’t learn a lot at least we learned a little, and if we didn’t learn a little, at least we didn’t get sick, and if we got sick, at least we didn’t die; so, let us all be thankful.”
This quote summarizes everything to live a peaceful and joyful life.
In all my years of learning about life, there was one common thing ie being grateful is the key to happiness.
Life will always present you with a reason to complain but you will also get even more reasons to feel grateful.
Don’t compare your life with others and feel bad. You might find some people who have it easier, but it’s not a reason to complain. Life has so much to give to each one of us.
Practice gratitude every day.
Take a few minutes to jot down the things you’re grateful for. Be it your health, family, or anything you’re glad about. This simple 5-minute exercise will change your life.
